Sacred thread, schooling and princely skill
Sharada, Shesha, Shambhu and the Vedas have sung these simple childhood deeds; whoever's mind does not take to them has been cheated by fate. When the brothers reach boyhood they receive the sacred thread. Rama goes to the guru's house to study and soon masters all learning, a great wonder, since the four Vedas are His natural breath. Skilled, humble and virtuous, the brothers practise every princely art, bow and arrow shining in their hands. Wherever they walk, men and women stop in wonder, and to everyone in Koshala, young and old, the gracious Rama is dearer than life.
