The day the sun stood still

Kaikeyi and Sumitra too give birth to beautiful sons; not even Sharada or Shesha could describe that hour. Avadhpuri glows as if night had come to meet the Lord but, abashed by the sun, stayed as dusk. The smoke of aloe incense is its darkness, the flying red abir its sunset glow, the palace gems its stars, the golden pitcher on the royal house its moon. Soft Vedic chanting is like birds at twilight. Watching all this, the Sun forgets himself and a whole month passes. A month became a single day and no one knew why: the Sun had halted his chariot, so how could night fall?
