Shiva seated beneath the banyan on Kailasa
Those who turn from Hari and Hara and have no love for dharma never reach Kailasa, even in a dream. On that mountain stands a vast banyan, fresh and lovely in every season; the Shruti calls it Shiva's resting tree. Once the Lord goes there, delighted by the tree, spreads a tiger skin with his own hands and sits at ease. His body is fair as jasmine, the moon and the conch; his arms are long and he wears a sage's bark cloth. The light of his toenails clears the darkness in devotees' hearts. Snakes and ash adorn him, his face outshines the autumn moon, Ganga flows from his matted crown, his throat is blue and the young moon graces his brow.
