The three go before the king

Lakshmana comes to where Janaki's lord is, glad to have won his dear wish. He bows at the feet of Rama and Sita and goes with them to the king's palace. The men and women of the city say to one another that fate has spoiled a well-made matter. Their bodies and minds ache and their faces are dark, like bees robbed of their honey. They wring their hands, beat their heads and grieve, like birds without wings. A great crowd gathers at the royal court. The minister raises the king, seats him, and gently tells him Rama has come. Seeing his two sons with Sita, the king is overwhelmed; again and again, in love, he clasps them to his breast.
