Dasharatha embraces Shri Rama and prays to Shiva

Hearing that Shri Rama has come, Dasharatha gathers courage and opens his eyes. The minister helps him sit up, and he sees Rama bowing at his feet. Overcome with love he clasps him to his breast, like a serpent that has found its lost jewel again. Tears stream as he gazes; grief stops his tongue and he can only hold Rama close again and again. Inwardly he begs the Creator that Rama may not go. Then he calls on Mahesha: hear me, Sadashiva, quick to be pleased and free in giving, take away this humble servant's anguish. You move every heart from within; give Rama the thought to disregard my word, set aside his dutiful nature and love, and stay at home.
