Saying this the crooked queen stands up, like a river of wrath in flood. Rising from the mountain of sin, it is full of the water of anger. The two boons are its banks, stubbornness its current, Manthara's words its whirlpools; it tears out the roots of the tree that is the king and rushes towards the sea of calamity. Dasharatha sees it is real: death, in the guise of a woman, dances over his head. He clasps her feet and pleads: do not be the axe to the solar line. Ask for my head and I will give it now, but do not kill me with separation from Rama. Seeing the sickness incurable, the king falls to the ground beating his head, crying in anguish, Rama, Rama, Raghunatha.
