The munis, Brahmins, guru, Bharata and King Janaka, all equally distraught at parting from Rama, walk the road in silence. They cross the Yamuna, and that day passes without food. Crossing the Ganga they halt a second time, where Rama's friend Guha sees to every comfort. They cross the Sai, bathe in the Gomati, and on the fourth day reach Ayodhya. Janaka stays in the city four days, entrusts the kingdom to the ministers, the guru and Bharata, and leaves for Tirhut with all his train. The men and women of the city, following the guru's counsel, settle in Rama's capital. For the sake of Rama's darshan they keep vows and fasts and live on the hope of the term's end.
