Sita meets her mothers-in-law

Sita comes and touches the great sage's feet and receives the blessing her heart wished. She meets the guru's wife and the sages' wives with love past telling. She bows at everyone's feet and receives dear blessings. When the mothers-in-law see Sita, they close their eyes in dread, like swans fallen into a hunter's hands: what has the cruel Creator done? Seeing Sita, they are pained; one must bear whatever fate brings. Then Janaka's daughter takes courage, her blue-lotus eyes filling with tears, and goes to meet them all. At that moment compassion covers the earth. Sita clings to the feet of each with deep love, and they, overcome, bless her from the heart: may you always stay a blessed wife.
