Lakshmana arms himself and swears to fight
Lakshmana rises with joined palms and asks for Rama's command, heroism itself awake. He ties up his matted hair, straps the quiver to his waist and takes bow and arrows in hand. Today, he says, I will win the fame of Rama's servant and teach Bharata a lesson in battle. Reaping the fruit of slighting Rama, both brothers will lie on the bed of war. Today I will show my old anger. As a lion tears through a herd of elephants and a hawk seizes a quail, so I will scorn and fell Bharata, his brother and army on the field. Even if Shankara comes to help, I swear by Rama I will strike. The guardians of the worlds tremble.
आजु राम-सेवक जस, लेऊँ । भरतहि समर सिखावन देऊँ ॥
राम निरादर कर फल पाई । सोवहुँ समर-सेज दोउ भाई ॥
āju rāma-sevaka jasa, leūm̐ | bharatahi samara sikhāvana deūm̐ ||
rāma nirādara kara phala pāī | sovahum̐ samara-seja dou bhāī ||
आइ बना भल सकल समाजू । प्रगट करउँ रिस पाछिल आजू ॥
जिमि करि निकर दलइ मृगराजू । लेइ लपेटि लवा जिमि बाजू ॥
āi banā bhala sakala samājū | pragaṭa karaum̐ risa pāchila ājū ||
jimi kari nikara dalai mṛgarājū | lei lapeṭi lavā jimi bājū ||
तैसेहिं भरतहि सेन समेता । सानुज निदरि निपातउँ खेता ॥
जौं सहाय कर सङ्कर आई । तौ मारउँ रन राम दोहाई ॥
taisehiṃ bharatahi sena sametā | sānuja nidari nipātaum̐ khetā ||
jauṃ sahāya kara saṅkara āī | tau māraum̐ rana rāma dohāī ||
अति सरोष माखे लखन, लखि सुनि सपथ प्रवान ।
सभय लोक सब लोकपति, चाहत मारि भगान ॥
ati saroṣa mākhe lakhana, lakhi suni sapatha pravāna |
sabhaya loka saba lokapati, cāhata māri bhagāna ||
