Seeing the fine bed of kusha grass, Bharata bows and walks around it. He puts the dust of the footprints to his eyes; his love is past telling. He finds two or four specks of gold and, counting them as Sita herself, places them on his head. With tears and remorse he speaks to his friend. Parted from Sita these grains have lost their lustre, like the people of Avadh. Her father Janaka has no equal, with both enjoyment and yoga in his palm. Her father-in-law, sun of the solar line, was envied by Indra. Her husband is Raghunath, whose greatness makes others great. Seeing the grass bed of this jewel of wives, my heart does not break; it is harder than a thunderbolt.
