What happens in this chapter

At dawn I will go to the Lord

No other remedy comes to me, Bharata says. One resolve sits in my mind: at daybreak I will set out for the Lord. Though I am wicked and the cause of all this trouble, when he sees me before him seeking refuge he will forgive all and show special grace. Raghurai is gentle, modest and simple, a home of mercy and love. Rama has never done ill even to an enemy, and I am his child and servant, however perverse. Give me your leave and blessing, elders, so that Rama, hearing my plea, may return to the capital. Though born of a wicked mother and always at fault, I trust Raghubir will not cast me off, knowing me his.
