Vasishtha calls the assembly and speaks of fate

What Bharata did for his father could not be told with a hundred thousand mouths. On an auspicious day Vasishtha summons the ministers and citizens to the royal assembly and sends for the two brothers. Seating Bharata beside him, he speaks words of polity and dharma. First he tells the whole matter, how crooked Kaikeyi acted, and praises the king's vow of truth, for he gave up his body and kept his love. Speaking of Rama's virtues and nature, the sage's eyes fill and his body thrills; he describes the love of Lakshmana and Sita and is lost in grief. Listen, Bharata, he says, destiny is strong. Loss and gain, life and death, fame and infamy lie with the Creator.
