Dasharatha leaves his body calling Rama
Rallying, the king sits up: Sumantra, where is gracious Rama? Where is Lakshmana, where my dear daughter-in-law Vaidehi? He laments in many ways, and the night drags on like an age. He remembers the curse of the blind ascetic and tells Kausalya the whole account, growing more distraught as he speaks. Shame on the hope of living without Rama; why keep a body that could not keep its vow of love? Ah Raghunandana, dear as life, I have lived too long without you. Ah Janaki, ah Lakshmana, ah Raghubara, rain-cloud to the chataka of your father's heart! The doha: crying 'Rama, Rama', again and again 'Rama', the king gives up his body in separation from Raghubara and goes to the abode of the devas.
