Suta turns to the vishama metres, where every quarter differs. The general form has a first quarter of eight syllables, a second of twelve, a third of sixteen and a fourth of twenty, each quarter four syllables longer than the one before. Apida has all light syllables with two heavies at the end of each quarter. When the quarters are moved about, the forms are named kalika, lavali and amritadhara. Udgata is given quarter by quarter in ganas: sa, ja, sa and a light first; na, sa, ja and a heavy second; and so on. By changing only the third quarter one gets saurabhaka and lalita. Upasthitapracupita, vardhamana, arshabha and shuddhavirat follow. Verses with uneven quarters of five, six or more syllables not named here are called gatha.
