01Flowers three times a day
The main Agnipureeswarar temple at Tiruppugalur was sung by all three Tevaram singers, but the small shrine of Varthamaneeswarar to the right of its sanctum has its own place among the Paadal Petra Sthalams, through one hymn of Sambandar in the second Tirumurai. In its third and fifth verses Sambandar praises Muruga Nayanar, born in this town, who gathered fresh flowers and offered them to Varthamaneeswarar at the three times of worship each day; Muruga Nayanar’s image stands at the entrance of the enclosure, and the hymn is inscribed inside. Manonmani has a small shrine of her own. The sanctums are dimly lit, so give your eyes a moment.
Inside the Agnipureeswarar temple at Tiruppugalur, about 11 km from Nannilam and 22 km from Tiruvarur. Vaikasi Visakam is celebrated here.
