01Rama and Nandi

After Rameswaram, the temple’s katha says, Shri Rama stopped at shrines on the way back to Ayodhya, and in a champaka grove here found a swayambhu linga. Nandi, not knowing Him, barred the way; Parvati drew Nandi aside and told him who stood there, and Rama bathed in the Rama tirtham and worshipped. The processional Somaskanda shows exactly this, the Devi with her hand on Nandi. On Punarpoosam, Rama’s birth star, special puja is done, and it is believed that Rama Himself performs the evening puja daily. There is no flagstaff and no rajagopuram. The Sowriraja Perumal Divya Desam of Tirukkannapuram is a short walk away.
