01Two vimanas over one linga

The temple holds that Shiva and Shakti are both present in the sanctum, the Devi in subtle, formless state beside the swayambhu linga, and two vimanas rise over it, a feature seen in very few temples. Oppila Nayaki, the Devi without equal, also stands in her own four-armed form in the outer prakaram, near a shrine of Agastya and the Agastya Theertham, which never runs dry. From the 7th to the 12th of Aadi the morning sun reaches the linga. Dakshinamurti here is Yoga Dakshinamurti, seated in siddhasana. Each of Sambandar’s verses on Nedungalam ends by asking the Lord to clear away troubles, and devotees recite them in hard times.
