01Sadaiyaay enumaal

A merchant had promised one of his daughters to his nephew and kept breaking the promise; the youngest left home with the young man to marry him, and they rested for the night in the temple’s madam at Marugal. A snake bit him and he died. Not yet his wife, she could not even touch his body, and she wept before the Lord. Sambandar, who was in the town, heard her and sang the padigam that begins Sadaiyaay enumaal; the young man rose, and Sambandar married them before the Lord. The vanni tree where it happened stands on a platform in the court, and the couple’s images are in the inner prakaram beside the saint. Vinayakar here is Vidam Theertha Vinayakar, the one who removed the poison.
