01Rama’s sand linga

The temple tells the katha known also at Rameswaram: Rama waited to worship Shiva, Hanuman had not yet come with a linga, and the hour was passing, so Rama formed one of sand. That prithvi linga is in the sanctum, and the one Hanuman brought is worshipped apart as the Hanumantha Lingam. A merchant cured of leprosy after bathing in the tank faces the Devi’s shrine in stone. The Devi sits in her wedding pose, and those whose marriages are delayed offer milk payasam to her on eight Fridays. Both sanctums face east under tall vimanas. Enathi Nayanar’s birthplace, Enanallur, is about 3 km away.
