Anekathangavadeswarar Temple, Kachi Anekathangavadam, Kanchipuram

Anekapa is the elephant, the one who drinks with two mouths. Vinayaka himself set up and worshipped this linga, and Sundarar sang it. The name Kachi marks it off from the Anekathangavadam of the Himalaya.

The temple’s katha says Vinayaka worshipped Shiva here, and Kubera too is named among the worshippers; the Kanchi Puranam speaks of the shrine. There are two Anekathangavadams in the Tevaram: this one in Kanchi and one in the Himalaya near Gaurikund, so the Tamil tradition calls this Kachi Anekathangavadam. Sundarar sang ten verses on it in the Seventh Tirumurai. In the niches stand Vinayaka, Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga; a Periya Vinayaka and the four Samaya Acharyas have shrines in the corridor.
