What happens in this chapter

The lover of the dawns awakes

Agni has woken from the lap of the dawns like their lover, says Vasishtha: the joyful hotar, wisest of seers, the purifier who sets a banner for both kinds of beings and carries offerings to the gods. Wise in act, he opened the doors of the Panis and won bright song and food for us. Unerring, he is Aditi and Vivasvan, a kind guest and friend; he shines at the front of the dawns and has entered the plants as the embryo of the waters. The rishi sends him as messenger with the band who make prayer, to bring Sarasvati, the Maruts, the Ashvins and the waters.
