What happens in this chapter

Vastoshpati, guardian of the dwelling

Three short trishtubh verses of Maharshi Vasishtha, son of Mitra and Varuna, to Vastoshpati, the lord of the homestead. He asks the Deva to know his family as his own, to make the house easy to enter and free from disease, and to be a blessing to two-footed and four-footed alike. Let the household grow in cows and horses, let its people stay unageing in his friendship, and let him care for them as a father cares for his sons. These verses are still recited when a new house is entered.
