What happens in this chapter
A guard against poison and swelling
A prayer for protection by Vasishtha, each verse ending 'let not the sickness of the foot find me'. He asks Mitra and Varuna to guard him so that the creeping, nesting thing does not come; he puts away the ill-looking ajakava. If swelling arises in the joints and spreads round knees and ankles, let Agni burn it away. The poison that grows in the shalmali tree, in the rivers and in the plants, let all the gods drive it out. The rivers that run down slopes and up, with water or without, are asked to swell with milk and be kind goddesses, free of the shipada sickness.
