To Rudra of the firm bow
Vasishtha brings these songs to Rudra of the steady bow and swift arrows, the self-ruling god, unconquered, the conqueror, the disposer with sharp weapons; may he hear. Rudra knows the earthly race by his dwelling and the heavenly by his sovereignty. 'Guard those who guard us, come to our doors, and be free of sickness among our people.' The rishi asks that the bright shaft Rudra hurls from heaven, which roams the earth, pass us by. 'Yours are a thousand remedies, gentle one; do not harm our children and grandchildren. Do not strike us, Rudra, do not abandon us; may we not fall into your noose when you are angered.'
