What happens in this chapter
Dadhikra, the divine courser
Vasishtha calls first on Dadhikra, the divine horse, then the Ashvins, Dawn, kindled Agni and Bhaga, with Indra, Vishnu, Pushan, Brahmanaspati, the Adityas, heaven and earth, the waters and the sun. Waking Dadhikra with homage, the priests seat goddess Ila on the grass. On waking Dadhikra he speaks to Agni, Dawn, the sun and the cow, and to the tawny steed of Varuna, asking them to keep all troubles far. Dadhikra is the first prize-winning courser, leading the chariots, in accord with Dawn, the sun, the Adityas, Vasus and Angirases. Let him anoint our road to follow the path of rita, and let Agni and all the wise gods hear.
