What happens in this chapter

Indra, a father who hears us

The Soma is pressed for Indra, says Vasishtha; let the lord of bay horses come to his home here, drink the well-pressed drink and give bounty when asked. Let the hero who loves prayer come quickly and hear these hymns at this pressing. Then the singer asks, almost in wonder, what fitting service he can give with his hymns, and when he may at last offer to him; he has stretched every thought toward Indra. 'Those rishis of old whom you heard were men too. So I call on you again and again, Maghavan, for you are our provider, like a father.' The hymn ends with the refrain of praise.
