Vasishtha asks Indra to come knowing to the prayers, his bays yoked toward us; all mortals call him, but let him hear us. His greatness has filled the call when he guards the prayer of the rishis; fierce, he was born unconquerable with the vajra in his hand. Born for great dominion and strength, he leads men and has heaped up the unconquered. The rishi asks Indra's gifts in these days, for hostile peoples are swelling. Then a plain confession: Varuna, the master of maya, sees the falsehood in us, sinless though we would be, and may he set it free twice over. The refrain ends the hymn.
