Vasishtha's three verses, the first in brihati, the rest in trishtubh, are a plain vow of worship to Agni Jatavedas, the god of bright flame. 'We would serve you with fuel, with fair praise, O worshipful one; we would serve you with ghee, hotar of the rite, and with offerings, god of auspicious light.' He asks Agni to come with the gods to the call, delighting in the vashat cry, so that the worshippers may remain givers to him. The refrain closes the hymn.
