Brihaspati, rock-breaker, firstborn of rita
Three trishtubh mantras of Bharadvaja Barhaspatya to Brihaspati, the rishi's own forebear by name. He is the rock-splitter, firstborn, true to rita, of the Angiras line, rich in offerings, our father, a bull who roars to heaven and earth. At the calling of the devas he made room for the people; slaying obstructions, he shatters forts and conquers enemies in battle. Brihaspati won treasures and the great stalls full of cows; seeking the waters and the light, unstoppable, he strikes the foe with songs.
जना॑य चि॒द्य ईव॑त उ लो॒कं बृह॒स्पति॑र्दे॒वहू॑तौ च॒कार॑ ।
घ्नन्वृ॒त्राणि॒ वि पुरो॑ दर्दरीति॒ जय॒ञ्छत्रूँ॑र॒मित्रा॑न्पृ॒त्सु साह॑न्
janāya cidya īvata u lokaṃ bṛhaspatirdevahūtau cakāra |
ghnanvṛtrāṇi vi puro dardarīti jayañchatrūm̐ramitrānpṛtsu sāhan
