What happens in this chapter
Soma that lit the days for Indra
Bharadvaja Barhaspatya sings to Indra in trishtubh, and much of the praise passes through Soma, the sweet, wise drink that wakes the poet's speech. Yoked to rita, Indra went round the rock, broke the unbroken ridge of Vala and fought the Panis with words to free the bright cows. This drop lit what had no light, made nights and autumns shine, and set the banner of the days in the pure-born dawns. The sukta closes asking the ancient king for food in plenty, and for waters, plants free of poison, forests, cows, horses and men.
अ॒यमु॑शा॒नः पर्यद्रि॑मु॒स्रा ऋ॒तधी॑तिभिरृत॒युग्यु॑जा॒नः ।
रु॒जदरु॑ग्णं॒ वि व॒लस्य॒ सानुं॑ प॒णीँर्वचो॑भिर॒भि यो॑ध॒दिन्द्र॑ः
