What happens in this chapter

Indra strikes both kinds of foes

Shunahotra, son of Bharadvaja, asks Indra in trishtubh for the mightiest joy, the strength that wins horses and overcomes enemies in battle. Men of many tongues call on him in the fight. With the singers he laid the Panis low; protected by him the racer wins the prize. The rishi says it plainly: you slew both kinds of enemies, Dasa and Arya foes alike, cutting them down as a forest is felled by sharp weapons. He asks Indra to be our friend and helper always, gracious now and in time to come, so that the singers may live in his shelter, rich in cows.
