What happens in this chapter

Three heavens held by two kings

Urucakri Atreya praises Mitra and Varuna in Trishtubh, four verses. They uphold three bright realms, three heavens and three spaces, guarding the unaging vow of kingly rule. For them the cows give refreshing milk and the rivers flow with honey. Three bulls stand firm, seed-bearers of the three bowls. The rishi calls goddess Aditi at dawn, at noon and at sunrise, and Mitra-Varuna for wealth and well-being, for children and grandchildren. The last verse declares that not even the immortal Devas can break the fixed vows of Mitra and Varuna.
