What happens in this chapter

Bring the devas to the barhis

The Vasuyus of the Atri family call Agni in gayatri. Purifying deva, with your bright, joyful tongue, bring the devas here and worship them. Bright-rayed one who sees the sun, we who are sprinkled with ghee ask you to bring them to the feast. The singers kindle him at the yajna, choose him as hotar, and ask him to come with all the devas and sit on the barhis with them, bringing heroic strength to the one who presses soma. Thousand-winning, kindled, he nourishes the ordinances. The last mantra, to the Vishvedevas, asks the Maruts, the Ashvins, Mitra and Varuna to sit here with all their folk.
