Puru's song to the shining Agni

Puru of the Atri family praises Agni in anushtubh, closing with a pankti. He calls for great vigour to be sung to the radiant deva whom mortals place in front like a friend. Through the days Agni is the hotar of men, holding power in both arms, and like Bhaga he distributes the offering in order. In friendship with this bounteous one of grown flame, the singers place their strength in him, the loud-roaring. Heaven and earth surround his fame as with a great stream. The rishi asks Agni to come with desirable wealth, so that singers and patrons alike win welfare, and to stand by them in battle.
