What happens in this chapter

Agni Bharata, carry us past enmity

Somahuti Bhargava calls Agni "Bharata", the fire of the Bharatas, youngest and good. In six gayatri verses he asks for the best and brightest wealth that many desire. Let no ill will of deva or mortal rule over us; carry us past hatred. As one wades across streams of water, so may we pass through all enmities with Agni. Pure and purifying, he shines high when offered ghee. The rishi recalls offerings of cows and oxen made to him, and closes by naming Agni the ancient hotri, wondrous son of strength, whose food is wood and whose drink is ghee.
