What happens in this chapter

Brihaspati leads us past danger

Tapurmurdha Barhaspatya praises Brihaspati in trishtubh. May Brihaspati lead us across difficult places and turn back the evil thought of the one who speaks ill. Each verse ends with the same line: may he hurl away the curse, strike down ill will, and bring welfare and blessing to the yajamana. May Narashamsa help us at the fore-offering, and may the after-offering bring us good at the calls. May the fiery-headed one burn the rakshas who hate prayer, to be struck down by the arrow. The rishi's own name, Tapurmurdha, fiery-headed, names the god's burning power in the last verse.
