Samvarta Angirasa calls Usha, the dawn, in four two-footed virat lines. Come with your loveliness; the cows follow the track with full udders. Come with a thought rich in good things, most bountiful, with generous ones, waking the worshipper. Like those who bring food, we the generous lay down the thread and worship. Usha drives back the darkness of her sister, the night, and by her noble birth turns the course. The brevity is the hymn's form: each line is a single picture of morning, ending with dawn pushing night away along the same path.
