Ita Bhargava praises Indra in gayatri, four short verses recalling his deeds. Indra, you helped the chariot of Ita, who had pressed soma, and heard the call of the soma-giver. You took the head of the boasting Makha from his skin and came to the house of the soma-presser. Indra, again and again you freed that mortal Venya for Astrabudhna, who longed for you. And you brought to the front the sun that stood behind, Indra, against the will of the devas. The hymn is brief and complete in itself, its rishi naming himself in the first line.
