May auspicious thoughts come from every side
Ā no bhadrāḥ kratavo yantu viśvataḥ: may auspicious thoughts come to us from every side. Gotama Rahugana's sukta to the Vishvedevas, in jagati and trishtubh, holds three of the most recited verses in Sanatan worship. Verse 6, svasti na indro vṛddhaśravāḥ, asks well-being from Indra, Pushan, Tarkshya and Brihaspati; verse 8, bhadraṃ karṇebhiḥ śṛṇuyāma, asks to hear and see only what is good and to live the god-given span with steady limbs. Together they open the shanti patha before study and puja. The rishi seeks a hundred autumns and closes with Aditi, who is sky, mid-air, mother, father and son, all gods and all that is born.
