What happens in this chapter

Heaven and Earth uphold the worlds

In jagati Dirghatamas again lauds Heaven and Earth, bringers of blessing to all, faithful to rita, who hold up the space between, while the bright god Surya moves between them by fixed law. Father and mother, wide and never failing, they guard all beings. Their son, the bearer, purifies the worlds with his power and milks the dappled cow and the bull. Most skilled of the skilled gods is he who made the two worlds and fixed them with unaging props. The rishi asks for great fame and lordly power by which to spread over the peoples.
