What happens in this chapter

Heaven and Earth, the generous parents

Dirghatamas praises Heaven and Earth in jagati at the sacrifice, the two great, wise ones who increase rita and whose sons are the gods. He thinks of the father's guileless mind and the mother's might. The two made the world wide for their offspring and gave them immortality. Twins of one womb, they keep the truth of all that stands and moves, and inspired poets spin ever-new threads across heaven and ocean. The rishi asks, under the impulse of Savitar, for wealth rich in goods and in hundreds of cattle.
