At dawn Rama bathes in the Sarayu and sits in the assembly with Brahmins and good men. Vasishtha expounds the Vedas and Puranas, and Rama listens, though he knows it all. He eats with his brothers, to the mothers' delight. Bharata and Shatrughna go with Hanuman to the gardens and ask about Rama's virtues; Hanuman tells them, and they beg him to tell it again and again. In every house the Puranas and the Rama charita are recited. Men and women sing Rama's praise and the days pass unnoticed. Not a thousand Sheshas could describe the joy of Avadhpuri, where King Rama reigns.
