Sati asks leave for Daksha's yajna

Kinnaras, Nagas, Siddhas and Gandharvas set out with their wives, and every deva readies his vimana for Daksha's yajna. Only Vishnu, Brahma and Mahesha stay away. Sati sees the bright chariots streaming across the sky and hears the apsaras singing so sweetly that sages lose their meditation. She asks Shiva, and he tells her everything. Hearing of her father's sacrifice she feels a little glad and thinks she might go and stay a few days on that excuse. Yet the grief of being set aside by her husband weighs on her, and she does not speak of her own fault. In a voice mixed with fear, shyness and love she says: if the Lord permits, she would go and see the great festival at her father's house.
