The city gathers at the arena
Vishvamitra says: let us go and see Sita's svayamvara, and whom Bhagwan gives the glory. Lakshmana answers that it will go to the one on whom your grace falls, my lord. The munis rejoice at these fitting words and bless everyone. Then the compassionate Lord sets off with the munis to the hall of the bow sacrifice. Word spreads that the two brothers have come to the arena, and children, youths and the old, men and women, leave their housework and hurry there. Seeing the crowd, Janaka tells his trusted servants to seat everyone properly, and with soft, humble words they seat each person in a place suited to their rank.
हरषे मुनि सब सुनि बर बानी । दीन्ह असीस सबहिँ सुख मानी ॥
पुनि मुनिबृंद समेत कृपाला । देखन चले धनुष-मख-साला ॥
haraṣe muni saba suni bara bānī | dīnha asīsa sabahim̐ sukha mānī ||
puni munibṛṃda sameta kṛpālā | dekhana cale dhanuṣa-makha-sālā ||
रङ्गभूमि आये दोउ भाई । असि सुधि सब पुरबासिन्ह पाई ॥
चले सकल गृह-काज बिसारी । बाल जुवान जरठ नर नारी ॥
raṅgabhūmi āye dou bhāī | asi sudhi saba purabāsinha pāī ||
cale sakala gṛha-kāja bisārī | bāla juvāna jaraṭha nara nārī ||
देखी जनक भीर भइ भारी । सुचि सेवक सब लिये हँकारी ॥
तुरत सकल लोगन्ह पहिँ जाहू । आसन उचित देहू सब काहू ॥
dekhī janaka bhīra bhai bhārī | suci sevaka saba liye ham̐kārī ||
turata sakala loganha pahim̐ jāhū | āsana ucita dehū saba kāhū ||
कहि मृदु बचन बिनीत तिन्ह, बैठारे नर नारि ।
उत्तम मध्यम नीच लघु, निज निज थल अनुहारि ॥
kahi mṛdu bacana binīta tinha, baiṭhāre nara nāri |
uttama madhyama nīca laghu, nija nija thala anuhāri ||
