Boons for the three brothers

The three brothers performed many kinds of tapas. Seeing it, Brahma came near: I am pleased, son; ask a boon. Ravana clasped his feet and pleaded: hear, Lord of the world, let us die at no one's hands except the two races of monkey and man. Shiva tells Parvati that he and Brahma together granted it: "So be it; you have done great tapas." Then they went to Kumbhakarna, alarmed: if this villain eats every day, the whole world will be laid waste. So they sent Sharada, who turned his mind, and he asked for sleep of six months. Last they went to Vibhishana and told him, son, ask a boon. He asked for pure love for the Lord's lotus feet.
