देखि रूप मुनि बिरति बिसारी । बड़ी बार लगि रहे निहारी ॥
लच्छन तासु बिलोकि भुलाने । हृदयँ हरष नहिँ प्रगट बखाने ॥
dekhi rūpa muni birati bisārī | bar̤ī bāra lagi rahe nihārī ||
lacchana tāsu biloki bhulāne | hṛdayam̐ haraṣa nahim̐ pragaṭa bakhāne ||

Seeing her beauty, the muni forgot his detachment and gazed at her a long while. Reading the marks on her body, he lost himself; he was delighted within but did not say so openly. Whoever weds her, the marks said, will become immortal, none will defeat him in battle, and all beings moving and still will serve him. Narada kept these signs in his heart, told the king a few invented words, called the girl auspicious and left, full of worry. He thought he must find some way to make her choose him. There was no time for japa or tapas. What he needed now, he decided, was supreme beauty and grand form, so that the princess would be charmed and put the victory garland on him.
