Shri Rama provides for all before leaving

Coming out, Shri Rama stands at Vasishtha's door and sees the people scorched by the fire of parting. He comforts them all with loving words and calls the Brahmanas. Through the guru he grants them a year's provisions. He satisfies those who ask with gifts and respect, and pleases his true friends with pure love. Then he calls the maids and servants, entrusts them to the guru, and says with joined palms: lord, care for them all as a father and mother would. Again and again, palms joined, he tells everyone gently that whoever keeps the king happy does him the greatest good. You citizens are most able; find a way that none of my mothers is broken by grief at my absence.
