Kausalya struck dumb by the news

Shri Rama's humble, sweet words pierce his mother's heart like arrows. Hearing that cool speech she shrinks and withers, as the javasa shrub dries up when the monsoon rain falls on it. Like a doe that hears a lion's roar, she trembles and weeps. Steadying herself and looking at her son's face, she speaks with a choked voice: Son, you are dear as life to your father, who rejoices every day at your conduct. He fixed an auspicious day to give you the kingdom; for what fault does he now send you to the forest? Who has become the fire that burns the Solar line? Reading Rama's look, a minister's son explains the matter, and hearing it she falls silent.
