Sumantra brings Rama to his father

Bring Rama here quickly, says Kaikeyi; then ask for the news. Reading the king's look, Sumantra goes, sensing that the queen has done some evil. Distraught, he can barely walk. Steadying himself he reaches the door, where everyone, seeing him downcast, questions him. He calms them all and goes to Rama, the tilak of the solar line. Rama sees Sumantra coming and honours him as he would his father. Looking at his face, Sumantra gives the king's command and leads the lamp of the Raghus away. People everywhere grieve to see Rama walking in such a manner with the minister. Arriving, the jewel of the Raghu line sees the king in utter distress, like an old elephant king cowering before a lioness.
