Knowledge without love of Rama is rudderless

Can delusion come near Janaka, whose knowledge is a sun that ends the night of worldliness? This grief only shows how great his love for Sita and Rama is. The Vedas name three kinds of beings, the worldly, the seekers and the perfected, and among them the one whose heart is moist with love for Rama is honoured most in the company of saints. Knowledge without love of Rama does not shine, like a ship without a helmsman. Vasishtha counsels Janaka at length, and all bathe at Ramghat. That whole day passes without even water; even the animals and birds fasted, so who can speak of Rama's own people? Next morning both kings bathe and sit under the banyan, sad at heart and worn in body.
